The Exodus 34 Echo Network
יְהוָה יְהוָה אֵל רַחוּם וְחַנּוּן
One divine self-disclosure at Sinai — twelve major reuse points across the Tanakh,
from Moses at Kadesh Barnea to Nehemiah's post-exilic prayer five centuries later.
Widely regarded as the most re-quoted OT passage within the OT itself.
The irony at the center: two prophets write about the same city,
quote the same verse, and choose opposite halves.

God's self-proclamation on Sinai · after the golden calf
"The LORD, the LORD,
a God merciful and gracious,
slow to anger,
and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness,
keeping steadfast love for thousands,
forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin,
but who will by no means clear the guilty,
visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children
and the children's children,
to the third and fourth generation."
